Culture
Coming of Age
When udori come of age, they are given a large jar. When they catch fish they make fish oil out of them, and fill the jar over their lifetime. Before the introduction of gold money, the oil was a means of interchange. It was seen as a great sin to die with anything in your possession, so the fish oil was used up during the funeral ceremony. In modern times, the next of kin sells all of your belongings and buys fish oil from the villagers before the funeral
Funeral practices
The body of the deceased is put in a boat and pushed down the river as oils are intentionally leaked from the back of the boat. At the bank of the river the oil is set alight and this fire should spread towards the boat and burn the body
